Since I’ve returned from California the weather in Toronto has been exceptionally warm so I managed to sail this week twice and host two outrageously fun Jazz Safaris!
I also had a great dining experience with my feisty friends at KOJA SUSHI on Atlantic just South of King. There are three decent sushi places in Liberty Village but this place has the best quality fish at reasonable prices.
I also got to take in Terra Hazelton at McMichael Gallery in Kleinberg! I host the shows every Thursday in October. CLICK HERE for more information and to pick up some tickets in advance. The concert is at 8pm sharp.
This week it’s a 14 year old piano prodigy who I have featured at many special events. Anastasia Rizikov has won awards around the world since she was twelve!
On Friday the JAZZ.FM91 donors were blown away by Tony Q’s party at Habits. Don Thompson and Jane Bunnett played with Tony and singers included Pam Hyatt, Sam Broverman, Ori Dagan and more!
Also, on Friday and Saturday we got to hit the Jazz Bistro for a double dose of pianist Bernie Senensky and his quintet. Jake Wilkinson (trumpet) Darryl Orr (alto sax) Barry Elmes (drums) and Steve Wallace (bass) all played brilliantly.
I was happy to arrive back at my Liberty Village loft to find my neighbours hosting an outdoor party! It made for a bit of a hangover on Saturday, but well worth it!
On Saturday I bumped into Rosie Levine and Val Dooley who haven’t aged since I met them decades ago. (insert old painting in the closet joke here?) One of the stops was at Dovercourt House and this was one of the few times we arrived as they were hosting a dance contest. Then, everybody danced to Drew Jureka and his awesome wee swing combo!
Sunday was another warm day so I called up some friends and we head out to sea…well…lake!
It was the first sail for Laura Landauer who has done her Celine and Cher impersonations at some of my big events but also has a great voice when she’s not looking like someone else. I love her rubber face!
After an afternoon of sailing I picked up Melissa and we headed over for a delicious and healthy dinner at the home of Megan and Robin Barker. Great food and conversation…and just the right amount of too much wine!
This week was chock full of great vibes, amazing bands and awesome people. If I posted ever pic of every band I saw and friend I met I’d go banana cuckoo and end up spending hours here. Suffice to say September went out with a bang. I am hoping for more great weather and a few more sails this month!
