This week began with my phone going off telling me I was on the air in thirty minutes! Luckily I live nearby, but I’ve slept in four times in ten years and it was a surreal way to start the week! I credit/blame my previous Sunday soiree with Igor, Nadia and Barbie. Too much fun! My BFF, Sahra Featherstone, just came back from a long tour and sailing was the perfect way to rekindle. A bunch of friends joined Captain Paul and the two of us.
Shereen and her cool cousins returned for their second sail of the season. A bit chilly after dark, so after checking out a bit of Ghosts Busters at Sail-in-Cinema we headed back to Harbourfront.
From Friday to Sunday I hosted the main stage at The Markham Jazz Festival in beautiful downtown Unionville. The Festival is 16 years old and I’ve hosted the past eight years. I really like the people and all the Artistic Directors (Hal Hill, Josh Grossman and now Michael Occhipinti) have done a fantastic job providing a ton of variety!
I miss June Garber and her husband Bob every time I go up (they moved to Florida where June is singing up a storm!) but there are a handful of friends I’m happy to see year after year.
When it comes to food, I spent almost all my time at Sushi Cafe right beside The Millennium Stage on Main Street. The chef is a master, the service is super fast and the prices are reasonable…oh yeah, and they play JAZZ.FM91, with no prodding from me! (The first time I walked in and ordered the lady said “you are interrupting yourself, that’s you on the radio right now, isn’t it?”) It’s a family owned business, so if you are in the neighbourhood, say hi for me and try some unique Japanese-Fusion.
