North Bay Bliss

King and Atlantic Streets had four feet of water and the manhole overflowethed!

Crazy weather started the week, but boy, did it get sweet in the past few days! My building was without power for a day and a half and as always, we made the most of it and had a party in the garage with the door open, watching the storm by candlelight with plenty of food and spirits! I had enough battery juice to complete a manuscript I’ve been working on for ages and we didn’t suffer a flood. Lucky lucky! imagejpeg_2

IMG_1090The minute the weather changed, it was off to Harbourfront to jump on the boat and go sailing.

I felt guilty for wearing an inappropriate hat.

Then, a trip to North Bay with Tim Rivers!

IMG_1154We drove up on Friday and checked into a wee motel called Glengarry.IMG_1145 photoI’ve stayed their a couple times a year for over a decade and on this trip we got the best cottage yet. IMG_1169North-Bay_78_glen-garryWhen I say that, if you saw the cottages, you would think I’m banana cuckoo.

They are all old and seventies looking, like staying at your favourite aunt’s place, but this place was right on the lake, had a breeze going through it and the beds were comfortable.

IMG_1131I had quality time with my mom and dad, my sister and brother in-law and my childhood pal…and had a great afternoon canoeing up Little Surgeon River.IMG_1190

IMG_1197On the way back to Toronto we stopped at Lenny Bloom’s Headquarters on Lake Simcoe. He calls it a cottage – I call it a surreal mansion! We had a healthy feast, long swim and early night. IMG_1247Then home to Toronto (ooh, ah, hot hot!) and a beeline to the lake for a sunset sail. IMG_1269The weather was great and I expect a late fall…and plenty more sailing and cycling!
