The TD Toronto jazz festival kicked in, but before the various concerts I still got in one afternoon of sailing and a great time with my pal on his yacht. We hit The Docks, now under the management of Charles Khabouth. The Cabana Pool Bar brings a Miami vibe to town.
It’s pricey but worth a look-see. I brought Jessica Ferg with me, we met up with friends at Outter Harbour and moored against the wall at The Docks.
I also sailed with Sophia Perlman this week. It was perfect weather, warm and windy and we checked out all the tall ships along the harbourfront. I had a wonderful home cooked dinner with Samantha Clayton this week…cycling from Liberty Village to Danforth and Donlands
gave me an appetite and I was spoiled with healthy food before we both got on our bikes to ride downtown to The Rex. The annual musicians party is always a blast.
I stayed till midnight but I have no doubt the jammed till the wee hours as it was in full force when I had to split. (Getting up at 5:30am for morning radio has given me the “Cinderella Clause” when I’m out drinking. On the way home by midnight!) Samantha Clayton sang some Monk and jammed with Jordan O’Connor, Morgan Childs, Drew Jureka and others.
Saturday I got to interview the great New Orleans legend Dr. John. He was sweet, funny and at times downright scandalous. He told a story about being in the studio when Harry Nilson spilled his bottle of booze all over the console and blew up the sound board. His advice on what to do in New Orleans “oh man, I could say go here or go there but truth is there’s a whole lot to see and you should just go down there and follow your spirit”.
Sunday I hit a pool party with Barbra Lica and Mr. Phil. The weather forecast was completely wrong – I’d made BBQ plans with other friends but didn’t want to get stuck up North on my bike in a storm. It all ended well…Barbie and I had a riot and BBQ at her condo building. I’d rather be hanging with her in Costa Rica but a pool in T.O. will do until next January…
