Monday I emceed a benefit for Regent Park School of Music. Some student ensembles performed, as well as a short, killer set from Robi Botos and Matt Dusk.
Heavyweights Brass Band worked the not-so-silent auction and I drank too much wine.
The first sail of the season was with Z, a new gal in town. It was super warm sailing through the islands. I went back Sunday with Captain Paul, Sahra, Andrea, Melissa and Julie. What a day! Monday back for one more sail with Melissa…super mellow. On Monday I got a lot of writing done and stuck to water. Sailing is never the same twice!
Also this week some live jamming with Don Francks. We’ll be working on a show with Tony Quarrington. More soon!
I hung with my pal King Arthur twice this week. Drinks one night and dinner at Sorrel the other. Errol Fisher was performing while I ate perfect food…whenever Errol sings at Sorrel (on Yorkville) you should make reservations. It’s not cheap but it’s a total blast! Also, when it comes to live music this past week, I was blown away twice by Bobby Carcasses who was in from Havana Cuba.
I’ve met Bobby and seen him perform for years. When I go to Cuba – he is the founder of the Havana Jazz Festival – watching him perform is always a highlight of my trip!
He is first and foremost a singer but he plays flugelhorn, percussion, piano, is an actor dancer and painter. He sold six paintings after his show at JAZZ.FM91 when I hosted a Live To Air from 91.1’s Long & McQuade Performance Hall. The gig the night before at Lula was jus as memborable.
SPECIAL THANKS TO MY PAL JANET JARDINE
FOR THE GREAT PHOTOS OF THE BOBBY CARCASSES LTA!
